Of these, 555 are registered under Section 16 of the Food and Drugs
Act, 1955. There are also 3 dairies registered under the Milk and Dairies
(General) Regulations, 1959. Due to the acute shortage of public health
inspectors none of these premises was subjected to routine inspection.
During the year, 7 butchers premises and 33 ice cream premises were
registered under Section 16 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955.
Meat and Food Inspection. (Tables 7 and 8). There was an overall
decrease of 9,886 animals in the slaughterhouse throughput compared with
1959. The numbers of cattle and calves increased by 836 and 209 res¬
pectively, whilst the number of sheep and lambs, pigs and cows decreased
by 8,887, 1,927, and 117 respectively.
