Wc beg to caution Chemists and Druggists respecting the numerous
imitations of this old established and valuable medicine, which has
now been prescribed by the medical profession for upwards of a
century.
These imitations are of comparatively recent introduction (a.d.
1839), and are advertised as "identical;" but when it is seen
that these so called identical articles are identical in extreme dose,
(viz. 6 grs.) with the Purvis Antimonialis of the Pharmacopoeia, it is
sufficient to show how different the preparation must be to our's, which
is given in doses of 16 grains and upwards. If, therefore, a prepa-
ration is used of which the maximum dose is 6 grains instead of 16, it
is evident a prescription so dispensed cannot possess that accuracy
which it is the boast of the trade to study and practise.
Wc prepare it from the only formula of the process, which was left (by Dr. James
in his own handwriting) with our great grandfather, who, as partner and co-patentee with the
Doctor, conducted the business of this particular interest.
