AH such preparations as arc liable to be injured by the naked fire, such as Extracts, Essences, &c, are prepared by Steam,by which means their full activity is preserved; and all such as are likely to act upon metallic vessels arc prepared in Glass or Earthenware. Great attention is paid to the preparation of Prussic Acid, so that it may be relied upon as containing the exact amount of real Acid directed by the Pharmacopoeia, when required of that strength, or as indicated by the specific gravity marked upon it. The Hydrated Peroxide of iron, (not the Carbonate, which is frequently substituted for it), so much recom- mended as an Antidote for Arsenic, is also prepared with care, and may be depended upon. BAILEY'S LIQUOR OPII SELATIVU8 is a solution of one of the component parts of Opium in Distilled Water, the properties of which have been fully investigated by distinguished practitioners both in town and "untry. The trials to which it has been submitted have proved it to possess the narcotic and sedative, without the stimulant properties of Opium. In many constitutions the effects of common Opium or Laudanum aro i xLremely distressing, and in all habits produces some inconvenience, often causing restlessness and delirium, Instead of producing 9leep ; and its use generally succeeded by sickness and debility. Of these deleterious effects the Liquor Opii Scdativus is wholly deprived, whilst it retains, in its full degree, all the desirable powers of Opium, m rcMevtag pafal, ■OOfTllng irritation, and procuring repose. It has now been prepared by him for many years, and lias met with universal approbation from the profession generallv.
